los tres amigos and that dang banshee wind

Three VA bumpkins rolled up into the ROC late Friday night for a brief shut-eye before drivin to the southtowns for a couple days of swangin. 'Purrintly nobody told the old weather witch to keep her storms away so we was left to clean up a tangle of plans as the LE tribs turned nasty. Had a short-lived idea to stop down at the Genny but after seein what a mess that ditch was in, we righted our good ship and pointed 'er east.

Blasted out to the Salmon bound for the UFZ, hoofed it to the lower stretch above hatchery waters and arrived on the river ahead of the impeding front.

Rigged up the two-handers and first pass through a feeshy hole this eggy lady ripped into a purple-collared natural bunny string leech:

Started at the head of the run, this time with a barred bunny intruder with green diamond braid body and tan marabou collar (topped with UV K-flash). A few swings later, this stocky feller has his say and bends the noodly 6wt switcher down into the grip:

Wind and driving rain rudely interrupt but the feesh just keep pushin on up. A few good taps kept us playin there for a spell but after workin a few more runs and pools, it was time to move on down.

Somewhere near 2A we managed another brown and hook up with some chrome that came unbuttoned. And a whole lotta leaves. So ends day one.

Day two begins at the 48 bridge with 5 times the company we had the previous afternoon. Hiked up into some good swing water devoid of the usual pinning knobs and floattards...immediately find yet another brown on the same green diamond braid-bodied intruder:

Always on the move we split up and worked every piece of water we could, all three of us tangling with some large steelhead that wriggled their way out of capture at the durn last moment like clockwork. Called it a day after the light faded...

All in all a fine weekend with a couple of good buddies and a few crushing takes. Surprised to see so many browns in the river but glad to oblige their innate mean streaks. And as always, one hook-up on the swang beats ten feesh in hand under a bobber. Lookin forward to another jaunt up into that neck of the woods again this season before it's time to split logs.

Yeah, LO produces some BIG beautiful Browns. Overall I've caught more Brown than Steel up there. Nice report.
