The wet shots aren't really representative of what it looks like swimming/swinging. Check the youtubes below The tube tends to hang low through the body/hackle unless the tube is light enough and/or there is enough material to create lift for the tube. NOT that I'm dissin' your fly. and I'm sure you take this into consideration, Nick. The coolest part of this style and it's shown in your photo, is the hang down tube allows for the hook pointing up snagglessly (I made a new word ;D) www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xxx2Nh_b7Powww.youtube.com/watch?v=Sk8ppeT5auI&feature=relatedThis one has a pile of material up at the front of the body/hackle and seems to swim more horizontally (may be plastic tube?) and there are a bunch more swimming flys in the side bar www.youtube.com/watch?v=421vfGPrFko&feature=relatedSO what I am getting at is you have a fly with a wide/tall profile that tracks well, but if you want more of a thinner side view and more horizontal tube attitude(?) WHAT about a collar on the ass end of the tube, not really a full-out intruder butt, but like on the "better minnow" you have a tail vail of hair near the end of the tube. My 2 cents, Steve

well if you were paying attention Steve that was all covered in scandi tubes 101. on these and on the coon dog i purposely use a plastic tube with a cone to eliminate the hang down of the tube at the rear. if you use a 1" copper tube it definitely hangs way below the wing but it's funny, i tied them for years that way and caught fish. you can get away with a 1/2" copper tube though if you want more weight or go to a tungsten cone.
