DETAILS: we will meet at Rick K's house on Legion Dr. Grand Island NY (Rd. is short you'll see us) at 9 am for coffee and sugary snacks and be ready to head out by 10:30-11am. we need sun for good spotting and the time of 11am - 5pm will be the official CARP-O-RAMA 2008® time slot for competition. byob for the major award presentation ceremony and cookout afterward.RECOMMENDED GEAR- 7-9 wt rods floating line and at least one spare leader. 8-12lb tippet. polarized glasses. small crayfish flies, hex type nymphs, clouser swimming nymphs, damsel/dragon nymphs, merkins and buggers are all good choices for flies. the water will be chilly still so waders are highly recommended for wading and tick protection for the state parks (tick island) areas. this is a serious note- there are LOTS of ticks on GI and participants should be aware and inspect themselves afterward. sun screen wouldn't hurt either and bring a good supply of water. here it is i'm sure you have all been waiting anxiously for the announcement. the third annual Grand Island NY CARP-O-RAMA 2008® will be held on Saturday June 14th. the event has grown quite a bit in it's first two years and has been deemed an outstanding success. the event is open to anyone, but guests will have to be approved by the BOD Grand Island NY CARP-O-RAMA 2008®. apply by sending me a PM or e-mail. this a a meer formality but will give us an idea of the number of Carp-0-Rammers®. designated as flyfishing only with flies and only the waters wade able from Grand Island are fishable. bass is open as well but the 5 lb smallies just want you to lose the Grand Island NY CARP-O-RAMA 2008® so don't be distracted. the only award is for longest carp. if you ain't first, you lost. the Major Award Last years Winner Paul Jacob with his catch the runner up first year's winner join us in raising a carp in a toast to this amazing fishery and our own idiocy!

this is the carp that will win it all tomorrow--I have him stashed away at a secret location along Grand Island--automatic feeder in place. Caught today at a pre-scouting mission. Location will not be divulged--except for some good micro brew.

well another year and another CARP-O-RAMA® in the books. thanks to all who attended and i hope everyone had a good time. several carp were caught by several people and several people, including myself, caught no carp. as usual they proved to be a worthy opponent. special thanks to Rick for letting us mess up his house and yard and for the quality hospitality. Vince Tobia was crowned this years winner with an carp of 29". last years winner was unable to attend since he is back in alaska guiding. this means we have had a different winner every year so far proving the difficulty of these fish especialy in a competition setting. it turns out that we have a short attention span (really?) and a group of us found our selves in some fine bass water and in no time poppers were being cast and bass were hooked making for some excitement between bouts of difficult carp fishing. bass-o-rama was a great success and since i caught, nor saw any carp caught, here is a little of the bass centered action. everyone else can add pics of the lesser carp and the winner. once again thanks to all who attended and here's to next year. lazy start to a cloudy morn, some people (not me) were actualy on time. traditional giant donuts again- thanks John! special touch by Paula what it's all about- supporting local business it's a long thirsty day pulling in all those bass- Steve and Tim Timmah!! top water was the ticket for bass- one of each different stripes vertical horizontal

Fortunately I did not catch any bass--otherwise I may not have been so fortunate as to bring home the coveted carp-o-rama trophy. I will guard the trophy vigilantly and be prepared to hand it over to next year's winner. Thanks Rick for another good carp-o-rama at your house! the 29" winning fish his smaller brother

if you chumps wouldn't have wasted all your time on those micropterus salmoides (bass) you may have had a chance to hoist the coveted trophy, and to have it hanging in your den for all to see.
my rules for carping success: 1. pretend there are no such thing as bass, or roaches for that matter, Carl. 2. drink no beer until the final whistle blows 3. forego the morning donut 4. kiss the first carp you catch the day of the toruney 5. follow "coach" to where the carp are 6. pretend there are no such thing as bass
By the way Steve, pm me the recipe for that bean salad if you are so inclined to share it

Nick thanks for organizing and thanks to Rick for hosting. I had a lot of fun - a great day Bass fishing....looking forward to next years Classic Looking through the few pics I took, this has to be the ugliest fish caught on a fly (clouser).

I would also like to thank everyone involved, I had a blast. Rick thanks again for the hospitality. It was great to spend some time getting to know everyone a little better and hammer down some delightful barley beverages. We have to arrange things like this more often. Chris thanks for being a great fishing partner for the day, your enthusiasm was outstanding. Oh and thanks for posting one of the two bullheads I caught on the fly that day, yes they are ugly. One last thing I discovered a TICK floating in the cooler water upon emptying the undrunken beers from it. I suppose you guys where right it is "Tick Island". Andy...

The Carp skunking continues,,,, I managed another Carp tourney dounut on home waters. Even the bass were slim pick'ns... We have been hammered with rain over the last week. I heard a report today that it rained an inch/hour during yesterday's Grand River Carp gathering. Obviously not the best conditions to sight fish for Carp or anything. All this to say... that training preparations are underway for Carp-O-Rama '09. After being skunked for Carp Saturday and Browns on the Upper Grand today. I returned home and worked on my Carp tourney conditioning, I had a few micro-brews and one very large donut. Ahhh feel the burn...lol BTW the winner of the Grand Carp tourney managed both Carp on a Spey rod...swing'n !!! Cheers,
