One question, did you dub under the quill or did you just use a thread base and built it up a bit?

just a thread base. sorry this took so long but with the camera issues and not being able to post...oh well, you get the picture. it's tough to find purple quills wide enough to build up a good body. also...important to soak them in warm water for a while or they tend to break.

After looking through some old flies I had been collecting, I found these. (when I saw this thread I knew I had them stashed somewhere). They are original Bonbright’s given to me about 20 years ago by Doug Reed. Doug was a long time member of the Bonbright club. They use dyed purple, striped peacock herl’s for the abdomen and cream fur for the thorax. And sometimes they use gray duck quill for a wing case. As fly flogger said “it’s not needed”.
