I think the midge should do just perfect for what I want. If you could only get one color to start what would it be? I already own a Dun colored saddle that is midge size. Also do the midge come in 1/2 packs or any other deals?

As far as the midge saddles go you have the following options:
1/4 saddle 14 and larger - 10-14 1/4 saddle 14 and smaller - 14 - 18 standard saddle - 12 - 16 midge saddle 18 - 26 1/4 midge saddle 18 - 26 1/2 midge saddle 18 - 26
The following prices are ones I just ripped off of a particular web site but it should give you some idea of cost.
Full Midge Saddles: Silver: $116, Bronze: $88.00
1/2 Saddles Midge: Silver: $64.00, Bronze: $49.00
1/4 Midge Saddles: Silver: $42.00, Bronze $33.00
As far as starting out with just one color being as you already have a dun I would go between griz or brown.
I would suggest having the basics, brown, grizz, dun and a cream. Those colors would give you a huge range of flies to tie and from there you can specialize colors or just buy some stuff that you like.
Hope some of this info here can help you out.

I am going out to purchase some things tomorrow, so this should help immensely. I think the griz or the cream should be fine. I also have a brown cape that I think I can tie some small flies out of that I forgot about.

I would say a cream or honey dun...........just so everyone knows.......when Whiting grades their hackles....everyone is of the highest quality....the different gradings (bronze, silver, etc) is related to the number of feathers per neck/saddle......a bronze has fewer feathers than a platinum......You're still driving a Porsche, just not fully loaded. I think this is one of the biggest problems Whitings has....relaying the info to the general public.
