well thanks Mikey, but aren't you in school? it should be you're not your. ;D see, we go from swearing and corrupting kids to correcting their grammar. we do try to be full service. here's a shitty pic of the bastard temple dog. i have been messing with a more traditional method but these have been working so... it's tied on a 1" copper tube which causes the body to hang down in the back a bit. that's why others are tied in plastic with cones, just to balance them better. apparently the fish don't much care. tube 1" thin copper thread red 8/0 butt- red dubbing body- fuchsia body braid hackle- grizzly hen saddle underwing- fl pink finn raccoon overwing- purple finn raccoon topping- peacock herl and purple holo flashabou hook- daiichi 1650 #4 this is as it was when i clipped it off after that piggy. it still has some mud in the wing.

Nick,
These posts are super. The "hand-crawl" method to speed up a fly in slower water is something I've never tried. I usually throw in a downstream mend, but your comments on making certain the fly appears to be fleeing rather than swimming at the fish makes perfect sense. Thanks for the tip!

Dub.Nic., "to speed up a fly in slower water is something I've never tried. I usually throw in a downstream mend," I was just thinking that, before I read your post. There's a big wide pool I fish, with a wide section of back eddy/frog water on the far bank and a narrow quick run coming down into it on the inside edge where you stand. I've seen tons of fish holding and rolling on the slack side and the only (successful for me) way to fish it is toss a long cast into the flat water and drop a downstream mend in the close fast run. This lets the currant drag the fly out of the eddy and the fish will attack the "fleeing" minnow. If the run drags the fly too quickly, I flip upstream mends to slow it down. Great info Nick, this starts some cool exchanges of info.

Is it just me or does it seem like the early steel coming from lake erie are a lot more silver then from the big O? Ive only seen a couple caught around my town that look that silver color. Most are dark.. or light green. I know it has to with freshness but i just never see them.

see, we go from swearing and corrupting kids to correcting their grammar. we do try to be full service. ;D ahh........funny stuff nice to see some younger anglers enjoying the outdoors rather in their rooms texting and playing vids ........although I must admit I enjoy a game of "Army Man" as I call it.........I think it's Call of Duty or something like that? Except that my son and his buds always tear me up pretty bad in it .......multiple times ...........and seem to enjoy doing so I like to sit back hide & snipe (old school).....................they run around with Tommy guns & flame throwers and prefer up close...and could care less if they get hit..........issue is...........it doesn't take them long to find out where my snipe hide is.......and I am not as fast as them up close. I think my wife gets enjoyment in some sick way listening to me get punished while they laugh and hoot also.
