Just my 2 cents.. Some older gent was bearing the cold and rain with me a few weeks back and we chatted for a bit.. All of a sudden he says 'Ya know what.. I got it.. " And puts a pink worm on.. After the 3rd fish in 20 mins, He had me a believer.. He handed me one.. I hooked 3 fish that day because of him..
They work, Not sure how often but they do hook chrome..

Awesome man. Now that we established them being successful... anyone car to say how you fish them? Im going to guess and say like a egg fly. With a weight bouncing on the bottom.

Im thinking maybe a bead head on it. like in the center and just tie it down behind it then infront of it. Its a plan that needs to be exucuted. To bad my fly tying supplies have deminished.

The Vladi worm, the only time when you break a coney island codfish and are happy.
Pepto worms worked well when Indi fished, now I throw a pink strip leech.

I have a ton of supplies.. And a crappy vice.. But it seems like everything I tie looks like absolute garbage.. Hah! Don't worry about how your flies are looking man. That will come naturally with time spent at the vice. Just worry about building solid foundations. The rest falls into place. Not sure how long you've been tying but the fly tying demo's should be starting up Saturday's at the shop in a little over a month or so. That's a great place to pick up some new tricks and watch some really talented tyers do their thing. Don't get down on yourself! If it doesn't look right to you when It's done either throw a new hook in the vice or take a razor to the hook in the vice. Now back to this worm fly!

I have attempted to fish the pink worm off a baitcasting reel under a float, to no success, but very limited effort. I have since learned that bottom bouncing is the preferred method to fish them. To do it with your fly gear you would need your shooting line to 6 feet of mono to snap swivel, snap on appropriate slinky, then 2 feet of leader to "pink worm". Opinions I have heard say its effectiveness is related to its visibility (size and color), bouyancy (like corky and yarn), and that paddle shaped tail. The latter two because they provide subtle action. IMHO it is a testament to the fact steelhead will mouth anything, when they feel like it, that is visible and properly presented. That said, the patterns presented here are really just SJW's, which are probably effective in the right situations with the right presentation, but not "pink worms". Just buy some 6" Mad River Worms, thread leader through the head to 2/3 the body length and bottom bounce with your fly gear. If you are uncomfortable with that, and you should not be, tie one on to a dry fly hook with pink thread. Or, better yet (maybe), cut a fat pink rubber band to 6 inch length, tie to dry fly hook. That should provide some bouyancy and action that paddle tail provides. Hmmm, I may try that myself.

I always try to find household items to use on my flies, the ideas are limitless,,, however, I never thought that a Trojan would come in handy in this perspective. A thought comes to mind though, If you head on over to the "Pink Flamingo".. you die-hards know it. The mens room carries the glow in the dark condo's for a buck..So you could have a glowing san juan for night time browns. One could killem' with one of those. ;D
