Looking into purchasing a new vice. A LAW is out of my price range unfortunately I have been eye-balling the Renzetti Presentation 2000. Would to you guys think? Any other similiar suggestions for around $300. What do you tie with? P.S. - It has to be rotary. Thanks

Im liking the Renzetti Presentation 4000. Its got a more sophisticated look. Little higher then the 2000 though.

Im liking the Renzetti Presentation 4000. Its got a more sophisticated look. Little higher then the 2000 though. Looks is actually the least of my concert. It has to be ergonomic and have the hook holding power to that of a snapping turtle. I've tied on a Regal before and even though the hook holding power is outstanding, I didnt like the way it felt. I like to rest my left hand on top of the vice as most of you probably do (right handed tyer). I think the 2000 might actually have one more adjustable axis than the 4000 and at a lower cost, that is why the 2000 Anyone use a DynaKing or a Griffin?

i would recommend an HMH myself. for the under $300 range especially, their best vise is just that. mine has around 100,000 flies through it and it's in perfect condition. the spartan is just under $200 and is a little smaller but will also last you into forever. both use the same jaws and hold very well. midge for tiny stuff and magnum for big stuff. they also have great tube jaws if you ever go that route, where renzetti is lacking. HMH is capable of rotary in a 90 deg position just not true rotary centered hook axis like the DK or renzetti.
if you wanted the full, true rotary i would recommend the dyna-king barracuda JR. about the same size as the renzetti and way better holding power. all of the dyna-kings are very well built and i used one of their vises for years i simply prefer the style of the HMH.

for what it's worth, LAW is no longer making vises. There is a knock off version in the UK or Ireland, but you'll still be out of the $300 range.
I'll throw my hat in the HMH column of votes. Does everything I need it to do. It's affordable, Nick sells them. They are assembled in Maine (located in the USA...lol), The customer support is top notch. and they are built to last.

I would have to throw in a vote for the Dyna-King, a few months (and a few hundred flies) ago I bought one from the shop and I couldn't be happier with it. I got the ultimate indexer, but the barracuda looks like it would be close enough in construction and for your price range. The "V" pocket behind the jaws is big enough to rest your hand, and it will allow you to set tails on small flies easily which was my biggest gripe with other true rotary vises. The jaws are great, and will hold a wide range of hook sizes. The quality of construction is outstanding, the jaws rotate on bearings and have no wiggle at all.

Nick, Is the HMH Standard considered rotary? I know its not "true" rotary, but I see the Spartan review mentions rotary and the Standary does not. They appear to be of similiar design. After reading all your responses, I think I might steer clear of the DynaKing and Renzetti only because of my style of tying and ergonomics. Aiming more towards an HMH....just which one is the question.

they are essentially the same vise but the standard is bigger and has bigger/better adjustment knobs. both can be set at any angle and can be used rotary with the jaws at a 90 deg angle to the stem.

the HMH is an excellent vise, solid, durable, heads interchange easily, Never had trouble with my Dynaking either, but the one I own is not rotary & the HMH rotary was less expensive. If you go for the HMH the midge jaws are a great addition for 18's & smaller, they hold really well & are small enough for me to get my fat sausage fingers right in there where you need them.
