rushfordrick asked me to post this up for him and his great and worthy cause, teaching the next generation the sport we love. we will have more details to follow and to volunteer or donate, please PM Rick. OK guys (and gals) it's that time of year coming up for our 2nd hope to be annual Rushford Youth Fly Fishing Festival. July 23rd at the Rushford Lake Conservation Club. If you would like to volunteer for a great day in the country showing off your skills with about 40 energetic boys and girls and hang out with some great people this is for you. Last year was awesome. Check out the pictures 2010 Rushford Youth FF festival and see why. If you can't make it but would still like to help, we could use some donated flys and if you have a couple of extra dollars and want to drop them of at the shop your help and donations would be greatly appreciated. If you wish to volunteer pm me or New School Nympher. rushfordrick

the event was a resounding success and hopefully convinced a few more young folks that there is a lot going on outside and off line. their enthusiasm and spirit amazed me as well as their ability to learn quickly. fantastic group of kids and many thanks to all for attending and their parents for getting them there. as to the volunteers, what can i say except thank you. you guys did such a good job and really made the event in many ways. a few that need special mention for their efforts would be first of all Justin and Rick for getting the event going originally and all the rest of their work on the behind the scenes stuff, great job and thank you. in the same breath their partners need even more thanks, for their work and also for dealing with their partners , Marina and Laurie (spell?) many, many thanks for all you did. next time Marina is in charge of all announcements and scheduling. way to take charge! others are too many to mention but let me see if i can remember everyone who was not a parent of a participant but showed up anyway and did a heck of a job. Aaron, Andy, Coach, Dave, Josh, Len, Nick and Nick's father (sorry i cannot remember), Ron and Tim. hopefully i didn't leave anyone out and if i did i apologize and thank you too. you guys made the event and your patience and skill was impressive. there were also a ton of parents and members of the RLCC who helped out tirelessly and a big thank you to all of you. the raffle was a resounding success and allowed us to have the funding to put together a really great program and prizes. thanks to all who purchased tickets. i don't have the particulars on who won but there is a photo below of the winner. their young son was very enthusiastic and they are also new members of the RLCC, congratulations! man, many photos were taken and i tried to pare it down but it's still a lot so here they are- getting started ready? Wildlife Rescue - i can't recall the name of the org. some one fill me in. prizes and lunch drawing the prizes winner! booty fly tying young eyes not so young eyes teamwork lots of pink flies great work! looking for critters in the pond casting class, get your helmets on! Len get's them started adult Ed. onto the fishing- Dad as pack mule barbless flies were mandatory a little pre fishing warm up equals success! you gotta start somewhere a little fun for the volunteers too the whole gang thanks again to EVERYONE who participated and hope to see you next year. hah! i knew i would forget something- thank you to everyone who donated flies to the event. it worked out very well as every kid got to take home some flies and hopefully they will help get them started.

Over the years we have attended a few kids fishing events. This really was the best one ever. All of you who volunteered to work with the kids did an outstanding job. The enthusiasm you showed, and the attention you paid to these children, is something they will remember for a long time. I know mine will...“When do they do that again?”...“Can we tie another fly now?”...“Dad, can I get a 3wt for my birthday?” I think having the different activities; tying, casting, eat, fish, prizes... kept the kids very interested. My only suggestion would be NOT to allow those monster Trouts in the water hole to be fed before we get a chance at them with a few flies. Our kids hear the get outdoors mantra every day from me or my wife. And I encourage them (prolly too much) to fish, tie flies, etc. But seeing other kids and adults into the fun really seemed to bring it out and reinforce it. Thank you. ps. I promise to never smite Justin again
