Thanks Fishon! What about boots? I've got felt, felt with metal cleats, and regular rubber/polywhatever soles.

Thanks Fishon! What about boots? I've got felt, felt with metal cleats, and regular rubber/polywhatever soles. Rubber or Felt is fine, Its all sand and weeds mostly, no need for cleats. The most important things are water and sunblock, good hat.

hi all, Although I've never made to to Carp-o-rama (did wanted to go this year but I have a family party + no wheels of my own so I won't be making it again this time unfortunately. I did though, thought I'd fill ya'll in on what has been working (at least for me) the last 3-4 trips I've made out to to the southern park of G.I. for carp & cat's, etc. I only have one pic of proof from my cell from last night since I dropped my camera in the water the other day & fried it but I've landed about 4 nice carp, buckets of cat's & 2 bass all on a weighted olive Merkin (crab looking fly) tied on a #6 AJ hook which I found the best retrieve is to be retrieved in 2-4" sorta jerky strips along the bottom. The only alterations I had made was (to the below how-to link) to replace the lead eyes with a Tungsten bead which I glued some silver/blue eye stickers on and abit longer silly legs in brown & black... the overall diameter of the fly was just short of a silver dollar. The second best fly, in m.o.op. is to mimic the decomposed carcasses of what I believe to be baby walleye that you see washing up along the rock walls around the river, they resemble the color of Nick P.'s "Cheezy-Poof" although about 1" longer with the addition of a small green colored tail as well as nose tip- the tail I used was a small piece of striped grizzly olive black & green hackle tied in vertically extending about 1/2" and a 50/50 mix of flashy peacock & dark grren dubbing head of about 1/4-1/2". Since you usually find them floating I weighted it heavy enough to slowly sink but no plummet to the bottom I did have some luck with the Cheesy-Poof but from what i have seen it sorta acts as more of a flesh fly swung through in about the bottom 1/3 of the water colume. I hope this helps albeit last minute but I just wanted ya'll to know what worked out there for me so mabye you can add a few to the war chest The link for the Merkin pattern I used is found on: www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZ2cqad2k_Y..and a crappy cell-pic that it works....... Anwho, good luck guys! Hope this helps a little........
