By request i will be doing a little demonstration on photographing flies this thursday night. We will start about 7pm and it may take an hour. The regular fly tying will also be happening too so bring your stuff and twist up a few if you like. I'll shoot a few as they get tied and have some photos up here over the weekend.

a couple of shots i took on thursday night. Handheld with on camera flash in the light box with two lights and the cam on tripod same fly in both tied by Charlie Dickson

Very cool shots as always, everyone on here always share high quality images. I am curious Nick what was your set up for these 2 types of shots the composition on the extreme close up is cool with the focal point and blowing out the back ground I am curious what you aperture and shutter speed was and what len??

the thing with macro is the closer you get to 1:1 the smaller the depth of field. also the longer the lens, the smaller the DOF.
that shot was the Nikkor 105 Micro at F16 and 1/250th. the background is as it was shot just way OOF. the same basic technique i use to shoot insects while fishing.

Last night for Thursday Night Fly Tying is tonight. Thanks to Mike and Chris for starting it off. Great idea and it's been a blast. Thanks also to all who came and had a little fun and maybe even learned a thing or two. I know i did. There will definitely be a next year.
