"we are also doing a $1 put in for either the smallest or the most Carp caught. we can decide on that in the morn. " Smallest, most, biggest? We could have a GRAND PRIZE$$$ this year of like 18 bucks Vote in the morning... I'm making THE Balsamic black bean salad (if you like it or not) Nick said a pasta salad, Charlie and I were talkin' about charcoal grills and firing up some smokey wings (if anyone else wants to bring MORE wings that will be yummy) more sides, the better! Sorry I'm hungry right now, so FOOD is on my mind.

Being an almost rookie to the carp fishing there were times when I thought you guys are nuts hunting these bottom feeders. I have now a new outlook on the golden bone. Let's say I'll leave kissing the fish for Coach, but true fun has been found in the warm water flats. We saw great numbers of willing fish. The 6 hours of the tourney came and went faster than everyone wanted. At one point I counted 17 guys lining the bank....all looking for the prize fish to beat the big boy of the day at 38". I felt like I won even though my largest fish was several inches shorter than the monster that took the 10th annual title. Here's what I saw during the day. Morning registration We saw fish while we were getting waders on and JJ#3 hooked the first fish. It was too far away to get a picture but we always celebrate with a cold one. It was not long before the action turned my way. The old South Bend glass (who knows it may be 50+ years old) seemed to come back to life when my first fish put me into my backing. After the fish came loose 1/2 way to Canada, Timmy finally landed 1 during official tourney time. Then JJ#1 was hooked up. And the prize.....his first time carpin'!!!!! The simple brown buggers took most of the willing fish we targeted. They are all still there. Sore lips heal fast I've been told. Thanks Andy for helping me out by holding the prize. Then JJ#2 decided to use a brown bugger and look what happened. Even landed it. Overall I think I saw about 15+ fish landed. Could have been more but it really does not matter. We all had many chances and you could not have had better conditions or better numbers of fish to cast to. Afterwards the party started off with my favorite style of beer. Thanks Steve for letting us party on your lawn!! Plenty of eats. This will not even get you in the winners group. The prize that I will never get to touch.

Best Carp-O-Rama® ever! no, not because i won but because of the numbers of fish caught. Even more reason to end the tournament on such a high note. for those not there i decided at the registration that this was the last year i would organize the event. hopefully someone else will take it from here. thanks to everyone who came this year or any year. getting a good turn out is key to success. you guys made it a great event by just showing up. i will be happy to do the same for the next organizer and also happy to support. Special thanks to the Kowalski Family for the generous hospitality and use of the yard and tent. even more thankful than usual for the tent this year! thanks to KB for putting up some photos since i'm a little short after swamping the camera during the day. i did get a few with the dslr and then some with the i-phone so here goes. the last shot on the card. the winner at 38 and 3/8th inches taken on a cheesey poof. crappy phone shot after the wrestling match. late in the day fish that took a new adaptation of the poof, the Crab Cake. gave the same rod and fly to my favorite FIL and he got this nice (if creepy) Mirror just before the 3pm cutoff in the pouring rain then we went over to East River and had us a cook out. Charlie Smoked some wings that were crazy good on top of the rest. thanks for that Chuck and to KB for bringing the killer sausage too. for those that didn't hear what happened i beached the fish and it then flopped over and snapped the leader at the tippet knot. it lay there, upright, about half covered with water and started to plow off into the current. i panicked and made a quick decision to tackle her. i threw the rod down and basically dove on the fish, grabbed it by the face, ending up with a finger in it's mouth and wrestled it to shore. then i realized i had stuck my camera into the top of my waders. it's now in a large bag of rice and does show signs of recovery so i'm hopeful it will recover. the lens may be shot, we'll see. my only regret is that no one got photos of it or better yet video. i knew the fish was a potential winner and is my second best ever. i sure wouldn't have done it for a ten pounder. in the photo you can still see the tippet going into the fish's mouth but it is no longer attached to the leader. Fuck Fluorocarbon. i landed four more fish that day and two monday and they all ate on Maxima UG 10lb. As i said, Best Carp-O-Rama® Ever!

Is that a nautilus on a fenwick? That's one hell of a juxtaposition. I'm sorry about the camera. My lower unit and pocket book feel your pain!

Carp usually pull some line so i do love my nice smooth, large arbors for that. i tried a couple of vintage reels but the line pick up is just so bad. someone needs to make a LA Medalist.
yep plenty of stuff takes a beating for fishing.

Good time as usual. I am sad to see Nick's reign as chairman of the rama end but who knows what the next organizer will bring. Maybe sheephead-a-rama?

As usual an amazing event that is always filled with huge laughs, in fact my cheeks still hurt.
Steve, yes I do look like a Telli Tubby, LOL!
And if it is the last Carp-O-Rama, and I hope not, it's fitting that I finally landed a couple of carp this year.
Long Live the Rama!

Some more photos: Shortly after we left registration, we broke from the pack. I quickly hooked this critter, which Ryan was kind enough to tail for me. Then I prayed for massive thunderstorms, that it might be the winner (the lightning chasing everyone off the water). Didn't happen. Joined the crew at the conga line, and immediately as I passed, KB hooked up. Then Andy broke his skunk Twice. (I think this is a picture of the bass, though). Probably never see the like again. In the end, I was glad the lightning didn't come. Best Carp-O-Rama® ever. Good luck topping that, Ryan. Perhaps it was an omen: for the second year in a row, the top two fish were caught on glass.
