Howdy Folks, I'm making a separate thread for this so as not to kill the Swap thread. A few of us are interested in having an Oak Orchard Fly Tying Night, probably every two weeks or so. From the feedback, it seems like there is interest, but the first thing we need to do to make this a regular thing is to have a somewhat reliable place to do it. I've made a few phone calls, and most of the VFW-type places want around $150 to get a big room for a night. Nick Sags can get us a deal at Big Ditch Brewing Co., but that'd mean $15/20 bucks a person (but include food and maybe beer), and most of the people I talked to would just rather have a room and byob setup. A few local libraries and other organizations have rooms for community events, but none of them I've found so far would allow the beer. Or Timmy. I know a lot of you have connections around the community -- so I'm reaching out to see if anyone knows of a place where we can have this fly tying thing. Parameters: - twice a month, to start?
- The particular day is flexible, but Thursday evenings seem to work for people. Weekends aren't good for lots of folks (or lots of venues as well)
- Needs to have access to beer, or allow BYOB
- Feedback suggests that folks don't mind throwing in $5, but that seems to be the limit
- attendance would vary from 10-25 people, at least in the beginning
So we need a place to get together, have some beers and tie some flies, for not a lot of cash. Ideas?

There are a couple of places that come to mind right away, but you'll have to check rentals, beer policy, etc.
1. Southtowns Walleye Assoc on Rte 20 in Hamburg (near Pleasant) will rent a hall to various groups. I know that some Hunter Safety Training Courses as well as "individual fundraising" functions, i.e., fundraisers to help someone with medical expenses, etc., are given there. It's the same place the Sthtwns Walleye group has their monthly meetings. They have a bar but not a full-time bartender so I don't know what is there policy about byob. Beer selection is slim.
2. The Niagara Musky Assoc. holds their monthly meetings at the Eldridge Club in Tonawanda. There is a good sized meeting room and they also have a bar. Draft beers are $2.00 ea. I heard that alcoholic drinks from the o/s are not allowed since they have a bar & sell beer & liquor. It might have something to do with NYS liquor licenses
If you're interested in looking into any of them, send me a P.M. & I'll give you the contacts' names.

Anybody opposed to a bar downtown across from the Hyatt: the Century Grill? with a shit ton of good beer (even some Big Ditch, Nick) I will have to check w/owner, see if it is cool & see what nights they don't have stuff going on, They do geeks who drink - could be Monday... (having us on a slow night would be better than taking up tables of food buying patrons.) the upper level has bench seat on one side and chairs on the outside w/ small tables that can be pushed together. They already know how much Timmy, Charlie & I can consume from derby events (the owner used to skate with my wife) So we should have an in, maybe So let me know if I should ask...

Anything is better than nothing. I always picked up a 6 pack before going to shop and never drank that many beers. Nick has a deal for the Big Ditch that has a flat price and open bar for a few hours of course who needs to tie flies under those circumstances. If lancaster is not too far out for you The VFW on Walden has a back room and is hurting for business.. i can stop in but want to know if interested

Yes, Yes and Yes. We need to find a place. Let's exercise all options at this point.

There are several sportsmens clubs in the area which probably would be eager for business, problem would be location.

Gentleman, for 16$, open bar 10 steps away and in a multimillion dollar brewery.. Prime spot. Anywhere else they average 4-5$ a beer? I'll have more than 3 I'm sure... The invitation is still on the table. If I could upload pictures I would. We can also bring whatever we want in, as well as put the hockey games on the 80" tv. Let me know
