i would like to have the DEC take this tragedy and turn it around by stocking heritage strain NY brook trout in spring creek. provided there isn't something systematic wrong. it would likely only take one stocking and maybe closing the creek for a year or two. how cool would it be to restore the creek with it's native fish? What a fantastic idea Nick! Would love to see that creek filled with the fish it should be filled with!

You're right Andy. Let's stock it with Taimen.

I don't give the chemical contamination being the issue. The bugs would be gone as well. Perhaps. Still interested to see the difference in water quality upstream verses down of hatchery. Guess there is a formal plan to manage the waste the hatchery produces? Of course any water sampling should be done by an independently paid third party.

If that is the case it would be similar to my profession. That being third parties conducting teacher observations as per Cuomo's "reform." This bastard is a dick with ears!

This could also possible be a fish killing pathogen and not be a industrial chemical problem, which would not show up in typical water quality analysis.

Yep. Fish waste, uneaten fish food, cleaning and disinfecting agents, antibiotics, suspended solids (total and volatile), ammonia, organic nitrogen, total phosphorus....

"Yep. Fish waste, uneaten fish food, cleaning and disinfecting agents, antibiotics, suspended solids (total and volatile), ammonia, organic nitrogen, total phosphorus...."
but, that's been a constant for the 100-whatever years big ol'Seth started in... I doubt we've reached critical mass on crap pumped into the creek, and I would assume regulations have gotten tighter on discharge from a DEC facility, (some may be laughing now) YOU KNOW Cuomo is a regulatory Nazi, and shit...
