Hi Everyone
I am new to the site and would like to gain some general information on the trout fishing opportunities in Western New York State. I have been researching on the net and found lots of information on the DEC site as well as other sites. I have picked out a river / creek that has me "chomping at the bit" to come down and give it a try. I attended the Niagara Fishing Show and plan to attend the Hamburg Sport & Travel Expo, what are my chances of gaining some fly fishing information? If nothing else it will get me down into the area so I can do some exploring. The type of fishing I do is small trout (although I am expecting big things from your region) headwater type fishing. I am not a salmon / steelheader fisher. Without mentioning a specific river/creek would anyone like to advise me of local conditions etc so that I don't drive from Ontario and get blown out. We can PM back and forth so that I can get a little more specific on my intentions. Would like to hear some feedback and I hope I don't "ruffle any feathers" if that is a proper phrase for fishing.
Thanks a Lot Kevin

Hi Again Everyone
From watching all the posts I guess I have much the same feeling about this summer, it's been too hot, and as an excuse for laziness, I use that as my reason for not getting out to fish much "too hot don't want to stress out the fish". This was going to be my first year and big foray into WNY to fly fish (small stream trout) because I've read so many good things about it, I did make a couple of trips down to familiarize myself with the area and I wasn't disappointed with what I saw, I really like all the little marked parking areas they make it easy to find spots to try and not have the uncomfortable fear of trespassing looming around. I still hope to make it down there and actually fish once the temperatures drop a little bit. I hope all you guys have had a chance to get out, I'm sure there are some good weeks still ahead of us.
Regards Kevin

... I doubt it. The way this year has been it's gonna be a a short rainy fall turning the streams & creeks to mud followed by 5 soul-crushingly freezing months of sunless grey skies & record snowfalls. Sorry to be the guy that pisses on the parade but it just feels that way... I was down at my cabin last weekend & despite the near drought-like conditions it is a bumper year for apples, acorns, berries etc., it's like Mother Nature knows hell's coming and she better make sure there's food enough for the critters to stock up on & plenty of seeds for next year to regrow what doesn't make it through.
