This fly is an extremely popular fly on the Gaspe Peninsula. It is best known on the grand Cascapedia were lodge owner Leo Ruelland invented it. However, it is extensively fished on other Gaspe rivers like the York and Bonaventure. It enjoys a good reputation as an evening fly. This fly is of special interest to me since I was in Gaspe several years ago when Leo Ruelland’s lodge, Horse Island Camp, burnt to the ground. Hook: Up eye salmon hook. Tag: Small oval silver tinsel and fluorescent green floss. Tail: Green bucktail. Rib: Fine black chenille. Body: Flat green tinsel. Wing: Black bear hair. Throat: Two Grizzly hackle tips Collar: Grizzly hen hackle Head: Black.
