Hook- Daiichi 1280 #10 – 18 Thread- Rusty Dun 8/0 Body- Dark Gray Antron twisted for extension and wrapped on shank for body Underwing- Clear or Dun colored Antron Wings and Legs- Dark Dun CDC feathers Thorax- Black Superfine dubbing Tying notes: To create the twisted body extension, simply stretch the yarn after tying in and twist between your fingers until it starts to kink. Using a bodkin to double the twisted yarn over itself and it will form the rope-like extension in response. Keep trying it until you get the length you want and can gauge the proper tension. So often when I find stoneflies on the surface of streams they are never totally at rest. They are always moving and sending tiny ripples out from their body as a result. Although many people use CDC for its flotation qualities, I think the best application is to simulate independent motion in the fly. As the fly rests in the water, those filaments of CDC fiber continually wave and undulate giving the fly a very realistic appearance.
