Hook- Daiichi 1130 #24 Abdomen and thread- Black 14/0 Rib- Gray 8/0 (twisted tightly) Wing- Golden or Yellow CDC Oiler Puff tied in upright and trimmed Tying notes: When working with small flies you need to really watch how much material gets placed on the shank. Keep the fly tight and disciplined using only as many wraps as you need. Use somewhat less pressure when tying in the CDC so the thread does not cut the fibers. This is a very effective pattern for imitating the dark winter midges found on many waters. It should be used with a light tippet and will not be very durable. Still, its value comes from the fact that it will take selective fish at times when nothing else is working. I bring along several of these flies when using them as they need to be changed periodically. Use Amadou to squeeze out water instead of desiccant shakes.
