earlier this fall, i was fishing close to dark for inland trout and wanted to try a mouse pattern. so i did. and it worked, to the point where i was getting hit after hit, but no fish. i figured they were hitting the tail, which on a normal mouserat is pretty far from the hook point. so i figured i'd try putting one on a tube to get the hook farther back. here is the result. i haven't been out for the trout since, but this fly caught a few bass up on grand island. it is tied on a plastic tube, spun and trimmed coastal deer hair, black thread (which the fly head acting as the mouse nose), black crystal flash for the whiskers and some sueded leather for the ears and tail, black marker for the eyes. i know my spinning and trimming is kinda shady, but i am excited to see if it'll work on them trouts. oh, and i just got a new camera, and i was playing around with the macro function, and this pic was the result!

way nice job on the mouse. the tube idea may just be the thing for the short strikers.
the pic looks good too. one tip though is to move the background way back to keep from gtting a shadow from the fly.

That is a real hot looking fly! I would love to fish it in cemitary pool at night. It will work as a mouse or possibly a giant emerging stonefly in the wee hours of the summer.
