great flymphs! I've always thought that in slower currants, a fly with out a tail will have a upward attitude or butt sinking if you look at it that way. I the case of minnow/streamer it's not a good thing, but for an emerging bug imitation it might be adding to the presentation - to be struggling up to the surface. Hi Steve, I've never had a problem taking trout on tail-less flymphs, although tails may certainly be added. Many soft-hackles were tied without tails and fished upstream in the surface film.

Mark, I don't think I was clear, Tailless = good I was thinking more of the dead drift below the film to a slow lifting swing approach - a al pupa. My mind is stuck on steel, I need to trout fish more.
