Charlies Goat Killier inspired me to take an attempt at a spey style fly. Below is a shot at my attempt working with what materials I had available. I would love to hear others opinon on my humble attempt. Any tips for achieving a better wing? How about tips for dubbing the body tighter?

It looks like a fish getter Wylie! I haven't been successful at getting the hackle wings to sit right so your guess is as good as mine. I think it does have something to do with the way the body is dubbed though so it doesn't force the wings upward. See these glasso flies. Orange Heron White Smaller short body. Also see how the bottom of the feather is stripped for a time so it lays better. Just learning on the fly,

Great first attempt. Like Shaq said, that fly is a fish getter for sure. I think it does have something to do with the way the body is dubbed though so it doesn't force the wings upward. Never a truer statement has been uttered! It is very important to get a thin body. A thicker body will cock the wing up. Often, I use fine yarn instead of dubbing to get a thin body. If you are going to use dubbing make sure it is spares. I also like to use very short wings, the length of the hook or shorter. It seems to make the fly look more in proportion. Charlie. P.S. Nice flies Shaq!
