3-D Pheasant Tail Emerger (Olive) Hook: Daiichi 1130 #16 or #18 Tail, abdomen and legs: Pheasant Tail fibers Rib: Fine gold wire Thorax: Olive Superfine dubbing Wings (two-stage): Medium dun oiler puff left natural to rear and trimmed short in front Thread: Rusty Dun 8/0 The "3D" designation comes from the fact that the pheasant tail is tied in once and used in three different ways to achieve the desired effect. The fiber tips form the tail (or shuck), then are wound up the hook shank for the abdomen and finally splayed to either side near the abdomen to provide short legs. Color and/or size variations of this basic pattern can be tied to imitate many mayflies that emerge at the surface of the water.
