Tube: 1 1/2" long - 1/16 diameter plastic w/ junction tubing Hook: Blackbird Sabretooth size 4 Tag: Oval tinsel - silver - small Tail: Golden Pheasant Crest and GP Tippet fibers Body: Blue at rear and Green in front Hackle: Whiting Spey Hackle - Heron Ribbing: mini sparkle braid - silver Hackle: Rhea - eggplant Gills: red dubbing Throat: Mallard flank Wings: Chinese neck hackle I landed a small steelhead on a Balmoral Dee fly this past fall and felt like adjusting the pattern , style, and character for a fishable tube fly. As you can see I left out the ribbing of flat tinsel along with flip flopping the body colors. A touch of red was added for our favorite predator to key in on. The front half of the body is wrapped with whiting spey hackle (heron color). Rhea is either wrapped or 10-12 fibers can be clipped from the stem and tied in. Red dubbing is next followed by natural mallard flank....one side stripped. The wings are from an old neck my father gave me when I started tying trout flies......they sucked for trout sized patterns, but just right for spey wings...funny how things work out
