Here is a tube fly that I tied up a while ago.. the wing is actually three different colors. I think I over did the JC eyes on this one and I have also been told that the hook was a poor choice for this fly. I would love to hear everyone elses opinon of this fly. I hope to tweak the pattern a bit for my week off in November. I will get this fly wet and then stuff it somewhere so that the wing looks even worse. two inch tube coper hybrid tubbing chartreuse but chartreuse dubbing of choice body purple floss with double sided mylar in coper followed by red wire Blue Eared Phesant hackle followed by Guenna feather wing 11 feather chartruse/pink/purple on each side optional JC eyes

I like the overall look Wylie. No need to make the wing look worse.......in fact, don't make it look worse......I wet mine then hang vertical to dry with the head up.
I think 11 feathers for the wing is too much (not sure why it is an odd number either). I am sure you had something on your mind........was it engineering/how the fly will "work" in the water or is it for aesthetics?
JC looks great!! I wouldn't make it shorter or longer.
If the hook didn't have an upturned eye it would be fine.
If you haven't, make sure to spey cast that 2" copper tube before you tie a bunch more. I tied some and hated them.......took the material off and cut the copper tubes in half and down to a 1/4".
I like your thinking and where you are going with this one.
Great work!! Frank

Frank thanks for the comments the wing is actually only six feathers total one of each color on each side. I like the larger tubes for certain areas at times I use the tubes length and weight as a convenient excuse for my poor casting ability's with the spey.

Sweet color combo - Now I need purple griz hackle also 6 feathers is probably what you want to keep it running upright with the 2" copper. You could shorten up the JC to more of an "eye" position but you knew that... The hook could be smaller (the beauty of tubes!) is that a #2? I use #4 or even a 6 I have used those tied on with a snell for more of a straight line down the shank, just remember wrap the snell around the shank away from the end of the hook eye end. The first time I tied one with a tube I kept snapping it off, pulling the knot tight. Until I realized I was wrapping in the wrong direction. (it's been years since I made worm harness walley rigs...)
great tie!
