So I've had a few folks ask me where and when I plan on fishing my 12' 4wt (ARC) spey rod. I managed to put it to work this weekend. Paired with an 330 gr. Echo Scandi head and running line supplied by OOFs, the rod easily cast poppers, clousers, beetles and buggers. The intended species was anything warm water. What a blast. I was amazed at how sensitive and responsive a 12' rod could be for fish as small as crappie and sunfish. However, this rod really shines for bass. Easy to cast from shore, float tube or boat and pure joy catching bass. This rod was so much fun I am really tempted to try it out with some early season jacks.
All in ail if you are considering an all-around rod for warm water, bigger water trout or a float tube, yak rod take a look at "trout" spey rods or light switch rods as they can be lot's of fun.
