Here's some nymphs I tied up this week for Steelhead. I can't wait to try them out! Prince Nymphs (I was messing with different dubbing for the bodies) Stoneflies A couple of pics of the newly built rod. comments? Will post some tube fly pics as soon as I can get them off of my cpu.

I dig the Prince Nymphs with the colored beads, and the Black Stoneflies look evil.

i dont know if it makes a difference, but ive always tied my princes with the tail biots facing upwards and the wings facing down. i like the stoneflies, looks like the thread head is a little large but the fish wont care too much about that.
as for the rod, that looks sick. ive been wanting to build one for a while but dont feel confident. nice work dude

Thanks all. WAY more to come later tonight after neither pattern worked on the Catt today... Cluster, it's a lot easier than you think. Just like tying, it takes patience.

Your finish works appears wavey. The black stones look pretty good. But it may be the bad lighting. The heads are huge on the golden stones. No comment on the princes. Everything else looks great!

Yep, caught me on the finish. Only second rod ever built, and I hand spun it. A LOT easier when you have a motorized spinner like I used on my first one. It only gets better from here. What you're seeing on the golden stones is that they have huge thread heads. I was messing around because they are the first stones I ever tied. I don't think I'll ever even use any but the black, but ya never know. Any suggestions on lighting for these kind of pics?

Nice job on the black stoneflies. The black biot legs look nice but for me they can be a pain in the butt to position properly and they really don't add any life to the fly. I prefer to just palmer a webby black hackle through the thorax. Another even simpler method is to dub the thorax very rough with guard hairs in the dubbing and just pick out the fur a bit after you tie off the head.

Thanks. Not too bad for me on the biots, but I like the other ideas as well. Just ordered a bunch of materials, so there will be more flies to critique as soon as I get them tied up.
