This is my fly box. I think i have a good assortment for steelhead and salmon. I know its not alot. I see those guys with huge wooden boxes full of colorful flies. All of mine are hand tied. They have a hole different meaning to me then if i was to buy tons of flies and put them in boxes. Is there any important flies you see that i dont have?

Looks to me like you have it pretty much covered, buggers, nymphs, and eggs. I can't tell it you have any but a pheasant tail nymph is very good in low clear water situations.
As far as those guys with the boxes full of flies, they probably only use at the most 3-4 patterns, that's a lot of wasted time tying on different patterns. I know I carry a lot of flies on certain waters due to the fact of losing a lot of them, but I usually carry only 2-3 patterns in different colors. Today I had 3 patterns, one I did not even use. The one pattern I had 5 different colors of, it was a sculpin pattern- I had 2 dark colors for off color water and 3 natural colored ones for clear water. When it comes to fly selection, you have heard it before and I'll say it again presentation is the key and confidence is a huge factor.

if you're mainly just shooting for lake run fish the big nymphs, eggs, and streamer type patterns are whats gonna kill it. If you're targeting inland fish its a different story. There are a million different patterns out there. Some that are reported to work better than others for various reasons but it mostly comes down to knowing how to fish with what you got. Knowing where in the watercolumn the fish are feeding is huge. Just being able to present the bait in a realistic way is whats most important. With that being said, you could add some of Kelly Galloup's streamer patterns to just about any box and it wouldnt hurt. Also you could check out some of Loren Williams' egg patterns www.flyguysoutfitting.com/eggpatterntutorials.html or some of his streamers www.flyguysoutfitting.com/streamertutorials.htmlAnother option is cruising through some of the patterns on this website.. of all places! Plenty of guys are very successful on here and have already taken the initiative to share their patterns. They all will work if presented right!
