my dads a trapper and we he's got a couple of beaver pelts back finally and they came out real nice. i was wondering if anyone has every tried or uses them in their flies. if so i think i'll have him get me a pelt to use.

beaver is one of the best natural furs you can use..

Beaver dubbing is pretty fine and dubs on the thread relatively easily. Its nice stuff

Since you have the pelt......the longer guard hairs make excellent mayfly tails similiar to MicroFibbets only cheaper I have about 2 whole pelts that were given to me by a taxidermist ;D Along with coyote, red fox, blue fox, badger, skunk, muskrat, mink, weasel. He sent me a 5 gal Craftsman Shop Vac box packed full !!!!! So yeah......beaver underfur makes excellent dubbing on dries.

right on, those guard hairs do make great tails. pinch a clump of it, clip off the whole bunch, pull out the guard hairs and throw them in a stacker and save the underfur for dubbing. beaver gh tail on the para hares ear

thanks. guess im goin to have to get him to keep me a pelt now as the one he has now he doesn't want me touching as it was his biggest yet at over 40lbs
