I am planning to fish for Pike this weekend in the shallows. What are some top water, and any other patterns that would work well for this? Any ideas would be much appreciated. THANKS! Joe

I would try a small mouse, look for a pattern with moving legs. Sorry I cannot remember where I saw this video, but a video of mouse flies were tore up by browns, and I know pike like them.

wj614..the pike I've been fortunate to have gotten have hit big flies that have been red & yellow or chartreuse in color. The pattern didn't seem to matter too much but it seems the red & white combo just p's them off! you going wading or from a boat? thanks..jj

Try those Alaskabou patterns and tie them in different colors. They are super easy to tie.

Joe thanks for showing me that video again, awesome, I have to check out the dvd sometime as well as tying some mice to try on big lake ontario browns. I do not spin deer hair and figure you want a quick tie for pike fishing, JJ,H.T.L. and A.F.T. have good flies. However if you are interested in mouse flies most are deer hair, but I did find one I like (www.jackgartside.com)the wet mouse fly. I am also thinking about adding rubber legs to a bunny spey fly and maybe some whiskers and eyes. Thanks again on that video. Tim
