this pattern which i stole from Rene Harrop's original hair wing dun is and has been my go to emerger for many years. simple to tie but it has just worked everywhere for any of the mayflies that hatch at the surface like hendricksons and sulphers. this version is for the female hendrickson dun and the color scheme is up for debate, they vary wildly. the females are always bigger fatter and golder than the males but that's about the only consistency. do the fish care what sex they eat? damned if i know. the point is don't get too hung up on the exact color. i would suggest tying a few different colors just in case. the pattern has evolved many times and this one is on the slightly curved daiichi 1260. i tied them for years on the 1180 straight shank too. natural deer for the wing or dyed dun too. change the colors for eastern sulpher emergers or cornutas or for western PMD's, flavs and green drakes. it works well for any Ephemerella hatch.
