I am having trouble with the tubing sticking on the mandrel after the fly is finished. I am using the extra small liner tubing inside the hybrid tubing so I can put a cone on the front and the tubes are extremely tight to the mandrel. How are other people tying on the hybrid tubing? Do I need a tapered needle to combine the two types of tubing together?

typically if it's lined with micro tubing i don't have trouble getting them off the mandrel, though they can be tight. i've heard a solution from others of rubbing paraffin on the mandrel before tying. i do use the tapered HMH mandrel but it's only tapered at the very end so i'm not sure if it makes a difference.

Thanks Nick for the wax idea. What I am currently doing is flipping the mandrel around and tying the fly right at the end, so when it is finished I can loosen the adapter around the hybrid tubing and pull the fly straight of the the mandrel while using the vise for leverage as it holds the bare mandrel. The mandrel is starting to bend, but that just means that I might have to get the tube fly vise jaws soon
