Hi ya'll, I'm looking to a pen & ink drawing with water-colors and then mount it all nicey-nice in an attached frame over a shadowbox containing the same "real" fly from the drawing for an x-mas present. I was wondering if anyone has any good recommendations for a nice spey-type fly, one that wouldn't be impossible for a semi-rookie to tie, nicely colorful (yet not gaudy, I'm thinking more natural with a few touches of color to make it pop rather than the million colors found in flies like some of the Atlantic Salmon Speys & Flys). I was thinking something along the lines of the creations of Sid Glasso, i.e. Orange/Purple Heron...... ALSO, where can I get my hands on a pack or 2 of fairly priced & in good condition BEP feathers; gray & black are the colors I'm looking to find . Any ideas &/or help will be greatly appreciated, Thanks, Nick.

You should look into doing a lady Caroline. It is such a classy fly, fairly easy to tie. Its not super colorful, but it still looks really nice

Thanks for the advice guys, and BTW Charlie, your purple heron tutorial has been a great help and your spey flies were actually the inspiration that made the little lite bulb in my head go off when I was thinking of what to make my bro... I have been make him something from hand for Christmas the last few years: last year was a European mount for his 8 pointer wraped in vines, b4 that it was a long gun wall mount case using a shed antler for the door handle. This year I wanted something he could put up on his wall that would be artsy-yet- fit in with the others as well as remind him that I always have an extra rod & line for him. -Mikey. thanks for the link as well, I have had that guys webpage bookmarked for a bit now & the type of drawing he does with watercolors along with pen, pencil, pen & ink is what I am working on. So thanks for the advice and helping me to finalize in my head what I am going to do. When it's done I'll put up a pic.
