cosmo, i usualy stay at the wilmington notch state campground, it's pretty lame but it is a great location for fishing the river. there are also several lodges and hotels right there as well. the hungry trout has rooms and also some private water right behind the place. PM me if you need some locations to fish the river and some smaller brookie water i think you will like. the flies should be sulphers, green drakes, march browns, grey fox, big golden stoneflies and probably small olives too. pretty much the same stuff we get just a couple of weeks or so behind us.

Cosmo, I've been going up each year for a while now. Great fishing but make sure you bring a wading staff the river is filled with greased bowling balls, its a lot different to wade the pocket water than the streams around our area. The Hungry Trout has a great restaurant, a bit fancy though. The pub under the restaurant is McDougall's great pub food and even better pints. Never stayed at the motel there but it looks nice. I usually stay at the Alpine Country Motel its a bit closer to Willmington and a bunch cheaper. It's not the greatest room in the world but all you are doing is sleeping. They are clean and warm though and Bill and his wife are very good people. You have to stop in and talk with Fran Betters at his shop the Adirondack Sports Shop. He's a great old guy that grew up on the river and designed all those famous flies like the Ausable Wulf and the Usual. If you want to know anything more specific shoot me a PM.
