So I bought a bunch of foam and wanted to tie up a bunch of flies using it..
I was thinking Beetles, Bees, Hoppers, Ants, Topwater Baitfish, Lady Bugs, and Spiders.
How well do they work? I'm assuming they are great at staying afloat. But my worry is they are too amature. Are my worries irrational?

amature?....really?........the only downside to foam (IMHO) is that they aren't made from roadkill and exotic birds that the traditionalist tote. If you are tying flies to catch fish.....then fear not the foam!

I tie a lot with foam. You can do some great stuff with foam! Plus, it's freaking cheap, so you can screw up a lot of flies and not be out much money.
I use it a lot for bass and panfish flies, but have used it on a few trout flies.
Good luck!

i always used to say that foam was for people that can't spin deer hair. now that i'm old and lazy i consider that i may have been too judgmental. embrace the foam young grasshopper... and use it for some grasshoppers! ext bodies, beetles and all manner of flies. even little bass/panfish poppers. foam 201 i will get to the details on these soon enough.

LORD KNOWS I COULD NEVER CHOOSE, but.... to be hyperbolic, small foam ants and little foam beetles just might be my favorite dry flies

What you need to do now is tie an extended body drake on a blind eye with a married wing. Ha see always thinking
