Where's NSN when we need him?! From my expirence with scuds, which is almost zero... They seem to work. I see NSN using them alot, and typing up different types. If im correct, they're usually grey. Sorry im not much of a help.

Only in grey? Would olive or black work?

The answer is this: they work great in all colors and sizes, but i like tan, orange, grey and olive best. Natural sizes are pretty small but you can tie them bigger and become an attractor / czech nymph depending on how you're weighting and tying them. Scuds are essential.

size 18 scuds seem to work the best for me out that way ive cleaned up my cdc scud and that has been a very good producer. Some people say that the bigger ones work well too but in my experience with wary fish i tent to go small and i have no complaints tend to get consistent strikes. size 14 and 12 scuds work great for lake run fish they eat alot of them in the lake I tie a greyish one with a red back and i have caught some nice fish with those on some slow days in the erie tribs.

scud hook, weight, scud dub/cdc/ostrich/or some spikey dubbing/any ribbing, scud back or shrimp foil...... you'll be into fish. just fish er off the bottom. Like i already said, I catch inland fish all day on many sizes. Yes I agree with NSN that if the fish are very picky the smaller sizes work better.

Also, Loren Williams' patterns are fantastic and I would not hesitate to fish any of them with the utmost confidence
