This is my first attempt at tying a muddler since I can remember. I hope to swing this fly for steelhead. I tied some more but I thought they got progressively worse. However when I showed a buddy of mine what i thought was the worst one, a grin came on his face and he said now this will work. Always looking for fresh perspectives and trying to upp my game.So give me some constructive criticism and help out a bro. I have thick skin. Other then a bit of trimming what can I do? Off to finish trimming the collar after seeing this pic. NSN suggestion other then pocket pool are kewl!

now you're down to the fun part: trimming the cut hair ends and not the tips from the collar. You probably know this technique, but for new muddler tiers: I grab the collar near the head and slowly slide down toward the tips. (NSN does this in his pocket as well) The shorter cut ends should pop out of your grasp before the tips and can be cut down to head level. Lets see the final photo, Wylie! Then we want to see the results from you swinging it across a tailout on the Salmon! Is that some fuzzy brown/orange dubbing? Or did you palmer a hackle in there too? sweet fly, guy

Someone has a mac. I can see the keyboard in the back. Your muddler looks better than mine. Its getting there, in no time you'll have fish all over that. ^^ Hahaha! So true.

That was Pat who asked for color and bullet. I like your first one better, just trim the cut ends out of the collar. I think you can "bullet" down the head as well, if you want, But it will push more water being "rounder" On this last one, I think the collar is long (imho) the head is cool being small (different style) but it seems you crowded the shit out of the eye on that one. That being said, I'd fish both of them ;D

i would fish them both, but imho the muddler head should be a little bigger and fuller, that way it pushes more water

flash-back...............zoom............sound affects That style Muddler (longer collar/smaller head) is what the old timers used often for Lake Run...................back when They felt it moved more water. All I know is it caught fish. A little research and you will see that style is one of about 3 Muddler/head,collar,tie styles used in the Pacific Northwest for Steelhead. A fav. with old timers there a like from what I understand.
