I just watched a Caddis Fly Shop video where they were making a sculpin with rabbit and what not. But they were using these new fish skull helmets. Has anyone tried these? Are they extremely heavy? They look pretty big, but it does give the fly that sculpin look. Heres the link to the video:

mikey,
he says the helmet is aluminum. aluminum is very light compared to brass, lead, tungsten, steel, etc. it probably cast fine........on 6wt and up with proper line and leader .

Ahhh, i didnt notice he said that, that would make sense. If that was made out of anything else it would become a bullet. The idea is pretty good though.

Mikey...
I inquired about them and they are definately aluminum...hollow, with most of the weight inside at the bottom to act as a keel, keeping the fly upright, whether you tie hook up or hook down...

i like verno's helmet sculpin much better personally, i would never tie a sculpin pattern on a tiemco 200 r hook as in first link.............nice hook..............just not a deep sculpin hook,,,,,,,,,,,plus verno's looks much better / better design all around.
