Does anyone use jigs under a thingamabobber? I know the pinners kill with black marabou jigs. I think it would work for fly rods, i know its not the conventional methods. But it seems like it would make for a good horizontal presentation for post spawn browns or winter steelhead. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this style. Thanks. Oh and Merry Christmas! I got the wonderful gift of an Echo 10'10'' 7Wt Switch rod from the shop. Highly recomended! Good luck.

mikey..congrats on getting the new Echo. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Santa must have stopped after reading your "nice" list but never got to your "naughty" list. You better hope he doesn't see that list, otherwise he'll be taking that rod back! A couple of friends of mine fish exactly the way you described (with fly rods) & sometimes they catch fish, and sometimes they don't. I tried it once & didn't get a thing. They tell me the secret is to get the depth exactly right. You'll have to play around a lot to get that part right.

..... my sentiments exactly; we start talking about jigs and pinners and everyone starts saying "yo", name dropping other fly fishing sites and talking about their thinagamabobber's.... we keep this up and next thing you know money's gonna be missing from the counter & your daughter's gonna get knocked up.

You guys are sad. You need to open up. Maybe i would use a jig, but that doesnt mean im some pin loving freak. I hate pinners, but they catch fish dont they? Yeah i think about this stuff, but that doesnt mean i dont strip streamers for browns, or swing wet flies for steel. I was just looking for a non-traditional setup. Im not the type to stay on the beaten path. I like trying new stuff, some of you should try it some time.

bead head buggers or mini clousers = same thing only you don't look as g-hay *
no bobbers necessary - your line is a float, 'eh you can always manipulate your drift by postion (where you are standing) and line/rod control (mending up or down) You can also fish little polar shrimp and tell yourself your not fishing eggs also.
*NOT that there's anything wrong with that...
