Thanks for the input... I do struggle a bit, knowing how much bucktail to use. I couldn't get the head as smooth as I would have liked... Potomac smallies go nuts over this pattern... Especially when they swim right.

Pretty nice fly. I've tied and fished a lot of bucktails over the years. and I've found that they should be tied fairly sparse or you can have trouble with how they will run in the water. Also, a lot of bucktails are tied with all the hair on top of the hook, although personally I usually tie the belly materials under the hook. one more thing, if when you are tying the flies you layer the materials try tying each layer in front of the previous layer (onto the hook) rather than on top of the hair. It will help maintain the separation of layers and keep the fly from flairing. one last thing, use the hair from along the middle of the side it seems to flair less. Good Luck!
