Deceivers work well. Some black ones, red and white, green and yellow, red and Yellow and some chartreus ones. A few clouser minnows in the same colors would be good.

What Charlie wrote ---- he nailed the color combo's. Top Side- Tie up a Popovics "banger" - (1/2" foam cylinder glued, estaz, buck tail w)flash tail and some prism taper over the foam - really, chugs, casts very well. Simplified colors top side mean less - more about the commotion than colors = all white w) some silver - all black w) some orange or red........and the classic red/white for good measure, tradition - Pike fly. Note- The Banger is a very good casting top water fly also. I will add a bent back for timber/weeds. For myself, Northerns are a whole lot easier to come, more aggressive , easier to stick on take, than Muskie. They seem to like a lot of flash subsurface and a lot of commotion, bang-pop-gurgle - top side. I think top water Northen Pike, in summer temps regionally is under rated. My experiance is with the exception of bright sunny days top water is MORE effective than subfurace for Northerns through summer. Try bushy, baitfish profile top water 4 1/2" - 6" long, in particular evenings or over cast days, big V wake to gurgle-bang-pop. Recently, I have noticed the heavy floro carbon (60#) bite guards actually sink - top water pike/muskie bugs more than the flex wire - "Tyger wire" type bite guards. Note a issue with foam / bangers but, deer belly it doesn't help any. Maxima Chameleon (brown) in a couple sections to about 20# , looped , to bite guards are standard, easy tie, power for turnover. I like mine about 1/2' - 1' shorter than the rod length in hand. This time of year regionally for Northerns - temps be it reservoir ,lake, river, big creek -------try some top water -------with confidance over subsurface simple banger - this one about 5 1/2" - tie the buck tail quite bushy- longer flash tail of flash a bou and k flash extended center of bucktail.
