Trico Killer Qu'est-ce que c'est fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa far better
this pattern has taken some time to develop and i'm finally happy with the technique. it works for any spent wing pattern but i find it particularly effective for tricos. this pattern is also tied on a curved shank hook a little on the big side to make hooking and landing fish easier. the fly is really about a 22 or 24 but tied on a #20 1140. this hook also gets the fly to land correctly pretty much all the time. it is similar to Vince Marinaro's technique for making spinner wings with hackle. the big difference is that this technique leaves the wings very wide at the point where they meet the hook shank or body of the fly. the original version did not and had them pinched in at the base and wide at the ends. not exactly how wings on spent bugs look. it may take you a bit to master but it is worth learning if you are into picky fish. you do need to match the thread color to the wing color as much as possible.
in the first part of the tutorial i am using a bigger hook and hackle with a very bright thread. this is just to show the technique itself a little clearer. it then moves onto the actual pattern. good luck.
