Hello everyone, As the steelhead season approaches, I figured that I would start to tie some flies in preparation for it. I have realized however that as a new steelhead fisherman, I don't know too many flies past wooly buggers and yarn eggs. If anyone could give me some tips on other fairly easy to ties flies, I would really appreciate it! Thank you for your time, Jake

Jake, take a look through the tying section here and see what you like. Charlie has a whole section on great lakes steelhead stuff and all of my steelhead flies listed are for around here. that's a good place to start anyway. you will develop your own favorites pretty quick once you start fishing for them.
just think, smaller and duller colored in clear water and big and dark or bright in dirty water. i.e #10 olive bugger for low clear water and a #4 black and orange egg sucking leech for off color water.
i would also add your standard trout nymphs to the lineup too. just use heavy enough hooks and maybe a bit bigger in general.

Basically what Nick said but I'll add a few patterns that I have had luck with over on the Salmon River.
-Teeny Leech or Teeny Nymph -Stoneflies with a hot colored thorax and Stoneflies with a natural colored thorax -Green butt skunk and it's variations -estaz flies and all their variations. -egg sucking leeches. -marabou or popsicle style streamers -crayfish pattern of your choice
Pick some patterns that catch your eye, fish them, tweak them, then fish them again. Before long you will get a feel for what you like and what the fish like.
