I'd like to thank the old retired guy who gave me a big coil of stainless steel wire, like 20 years ago and thank you to Frank Swarner for tying on cotter pins, who made me think - Hey! I got that wire... one end extended to hold in the vice (not needed if you have a rotary) clip off square after (I also bent some wadington style with a return loop on the back end) Shank wrapped with a base of thread, hook loop secured (orange 30lb. backing) tags folded over and secured (will not pull out) add some eyes now and nail polish the thread wraps (on the eyes too) let dry then add feathers and sh*t finished intruder'ish swing a deep hole (cuz it was cold on Sunday morning) with a compact scandi with a 7ft sinking leader and about 4 ft, 13 lb tippet AND this happens Shanks alot! Frank PM me you address, I'll send you some, Steve

Ha ha!! Yeah man that's how you do it!! I'm getting into bending my own shanks as well. I hope they look as nice as yours.
Did you just use round nose pliers or other tools to get the shape you want?

Wylie, I skipped a couple steps (like try 3 pools and cast a hundred times) but you get the idea Frank, pliers to finish, but this stuff is hard as hell, I put 2 finishing nails (one without a head) in a chunk of hardwood - spaced just a little more than the thickness of the wire. bend a "V" around one nail then use the second to bend the base of the eye - add roundness, flip over and round the other bottom of the eye. I use needle nose pliers to "up eye" and tweak the 2 legs into shape. get the picture? (I'll take one, if you don't )

Your flies are turning out very nice Steve. Pretty sneaky throwing in the catching part of the report in the tying section. Bright fish you have there. How about the details?

Justin, I'll bend you up some long ones you can loop them with wire. As long as you have some BIG eyed hooks to run the wire loop through.
how long for the shank? how long a loop?
as far as sbs, It's an intruder... it's about 4 in. long wet. this one has yel. bou & flash tail, long white goose flat rear hackle, pearl "master flash" dubbing (from the shop), white hackle palmered (bugger style) 2 turns of yel. bou. 2 of white goose (long schlappen works) 2 of mallard. flash dub the eyes Wing w/chart., black crystal flash & 4 strands of minnow scale silver
