Does anyone know the life span of junction tube? I actually got out fishing and had a fish on and lost it. I checked the hook and the junction tube was split all the way to the tube. It was the black tubing, I really don't like that kind cause the eye of the hooks I use are really tight in it, BUT the hook does come free after a fish takes it. The tubing seemed brittle, I am not sure of how old it was but I am going to get some new tubing on my flies. These are flies that have been fished so I wonder if the fly is good, change the junction every 6 months or so. I use a lot of my tube flies for all year swinging, not just in the winter

it could have been a temperature issue with some of the jct tubing. vinyl and silicone are the most durable. HMH hybrid will break if it's cold and the fly is impacted. as far as i've seen, age does not seem to be a factor.
that said i doubt it had anything to do with losing the fish.

Gee thanks for the encouragement Nick, I am crying from laughing, actually it was the hybrid tube, but I' ve used it in the low 20's before and not had a problem. Guess I should fish more, I am not even going to touch on my casting but I got destroyed by the wind wind with my 1006, yeah- that's what it was
