My variation on the standard PheasantTail on a size 22 hook tails are long for more wiggle. Is working real well as a drowned BWO emerger.

The tails are a little long for my taste. Proportions are big for me. I'm sure this will catch fish but having a long tail like leads to some short strikes and greater chance that the tail will rip off.

Yep very long.... I do have a few tied short. But short tails don't move and I think the movement triggers more strikes. I tie most of my wet/nymph patterns smaller than size 20 with out tails. Maybe a few CDC fibers for the tail? Any dark olive CDC at the shop?? A small clump of aftershaft feathers?

Wood duck might work for the tail on that fly also. I'd use the reel thing on a fly like that. Not the mallard substitute. The real thing is a bit finer and better segmented. Cool looking fly the way it is.
