Its really sad, but also really nice, to read all your comments about Dave. Thanks for posting them. One of my best memories with Dave didn't involve fishing, although we did plenty of that. It was at a stream cleanup event on a little Erie Trib. He was so into the whole event. Collecting trash and planting trees. I think he carried more shit out of that stream than all the rest of us put together. On the way to and from that event he had a blast kindly teasing and joking with my son. I remember a thread on that site Nate mentioned about Dave landing 100 fish in a day. People were going nuts about how it was not possible and so forth. Ryan and I still joke about that. Fuck it, I was there. And I can attest to the fact that he caught 125 that day! Over the years I’d lost touch with Dave. Just saw him once in a while, as his illness took its toll. But whenever I did see him, no matter how long it had been, he had that smile. He had a shit load of energy and was a kind man. He took a number of folks under his wing to teach them fishing techniques, and to also become a friend. He truly loved to teach the sport. Like most of us he had his personal troubles, but also like most of us those troubles made him who he was - A good man. Here's to you Dave!

thanks for sharing that Brian, brings back some memories. I vividly remember the 100 fish in a day debate and the running jokes that ensued from it. You hit it bang on with the comment about his smile, even towards the end he would still have that classic smile on his face when I walked into the room. Like you mentioned, Dave was great with kids, I always admired how he cared for the children of his girlfriend at the time, one of which was mentally challenged, he was incredibly patient and loving with them.
Dave didn't do much inland fishing, but I remember that day that you (Brian), Dave, and I hit an upper catt trib and Dave managed to nymph up a few little 'bows, he was just as stoked to catch them as I've seen him with a 30" steelhead.

I used to run into Dave all the time on the local tribs. He was always good for a chat and we would usually share conditions of other streams we had been to or planned to visit that day.
It was also because of Dave that I went to Canadaway for the first time in my life because of a tip he gave me earlier in the day on another stream.
He was easily the most friendly guy on the water.
This is a damn shame...
