I have been spey casting for about 3 years on the Salmon River using a 13.5 foot Orvis 8/9 rod and a Cortland WF 8/9 Tri-color Spey line. (full floating)
When swinging flies in the 335 to 750 cfs flows that I normally fish I have been using conehead wooly buggers or adding twist-on lead strips to the leader to get the fly down to mid level.
My question is: can I get by using an Airflo or RIO "sinking leader" in extra fast sink rate in these flows or would I have better luck with a sink-tip or mini-head???
Thanks for any advise! - Fish tech

you can use the leaders no problem I would also cut that line back and you can use sections of lc13 or t14 as sink tips. get rid of the twiston weights, the tips are all you need and don't make that cracking sound when they bounce off the rod.
