What's the best material to use to attach a stinger hook to a shank? Mono, flouro or dacron? I have all at my disposal, mono/flouro seems to hold the stinger hook in position while with the dacron the hook is free floating. Is there an advantage to either? Thanks in advance.

I have used several things. First I tried braided 30lb line, that was too "floppy" and "free-flowing." Both the braided line and the backing have a tendency to tangle up. It can get messy and I'd rather not have to check the fly while fishing. I used a heavy mono for a bit, then switched over to beading wire. They sell it at craft stores. There is usually 3 varieties of flexibility based on the number of strands. The higher the strand count, the more flexible. I would use the most flexible option. To me it allows for the perfect blend of strength and movement... not to mention it will never break or get brittle like mono or fluoro can. These days I have spending my money and time on tube flies, which can easily be rigged with a trailer hook. If you are tying on shanks with fixed loops, make sure the loop is big enough to swap hooks. Nothing worse than tying an awesome fly only to break or bend the hook on a rock or log.
