I'm looking for some advise from anyone with experience using sinking polyleaders to swing flies on the Salmon River. Specifically what sink rate in ips (inches per second) would work best for the various flow levels on the Salmon River?? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) The 10' Rio leaders I'm thinking of buying come in rates from 1.5 ips to 7.0 ips. The water levels I usually fish at are 185 cubic feet per second, 350 cfs, 500 cfs, and 750 cfs. I know at 185 cfs the water is shallow enough to just use a regular mono leader and get the fly into the strike zone but I would appreciate anyone thoughts on what sink rate leader to use at the higher flows. Thanks in advance for any advise! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

timely post since it has been a recent topic on the river and it turns out we were all using different stuff. really having a range of tips and then ajusting a bit with the weight of the fly is what is likely the best bet. the 1.5's make a great leader for clear water and swinging. they turn over well and sink a bit better than mono. i skip the lightest sinking tip and go right to the 3.9 then the 5.6 and sometimes the 7 ips. those four would likely cover it with a weighted fly for faster water or those higher flows.
