It is difficult to hate on an invasive species that's this pretty. What the NYS DEC needs to realize though is that the particular stream this wild brown came from has the ability to hold native brookies. The browns were stocked to "improve" the fishery but it has not been improved. They are not any bigger nor more prolific than their displaced cousins. They are however, harder to catch. one of the brookies best characteristics (from an angler's perspective) is that they are gullible. Brown trout are not. We still have a stream full of small, wild trout, just different colors and personalities and invasive as opposed to native. We need to recognize the streams we have left that can sustain brookies and do everything we can to protect them. Lets start with not stocking streams that hold wild natives. Seems simple enough. Agree?
